Ashtray 3.0 by Seth
As Seth’s pottery skills morphed and evolved, so have the shapes of his ashtrays. The Ashtray 3.0 features the same deep well and notch we love from previous designs, with the addition of a groovy, wavy shape and glossy multicolor glaze that gives the ashtray a unique, retro-modern feel.
Why we made this
A few years back, Seth took a pottery lesson with his wife Lauren and didn’t know what to start off making. He realized he interacts with ashtrays more than any other object throughout a given day. He had a lot of thoughts about what they should consist of: an ample notch to rest what he’s smoking so it’s easy to pick up and put down, a deep well to dispose of ashes, and a secondary saucer or coaster to use as another ashtray or holder.
As Seth’s pottery skills morphed and evolved, so did the shape of his ashtrays. The Ashtray 3.0 has taken on a new shape - literally, featuring a wavy shape and still maintaining the key features we love about our original Ashtray by Seth.
Distinctive form & function
All the pieces in this section were designed by Seth and are things Seth would love to have, to the point that he had them made. Some are based on original designs or pieces from his personal collection, some are based on his love of ashtrays, some are sort of just based on Seth.
Whether they use a glaze he invented, or simply a design he came up with, he’s closely involved in every part of the process for all the stuff you see here. Hence the name “By Seth.”
